Charles Dickens correspondence, 1839-1867.

This collection contains twenty-two letters written by Charles Dickens (1812-1870), that discuss a variety of subjects, among them details of the Tavistock House theatricals and rehearsals for "Turninng the Tables", and the plight of the poor in England. In other letters Dickens elicits help for orphans from the Gentlemen of the Stock Exchange, confirms or declines invitations, and expresses his interest in the Ragged School Movement. Also included in the correspondence are several letters that provide glimpses into Dickens' domestic life, including the future cadetship for one of his sons, his wife's health, and the problems he had with his cistern and the company he purchased it from.
